FOIA / 3792 / 2018 - Harlow Fire Station

Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I can confirm that Essex County Fire & Rescue Service does hold this information.

Initial request:.

I write to seek information about the Fire Station in Harlow..

I seem to recall that some years ago the Fire and Rescue Service indicated that it was looking to relocate to another site, possibly on the edge of Harlow..

I further understand that since then there has been a reduction in the number of fire fighting appliances on site and that the tower used to practice fire fighting in flats is no longer used. I also see that the number of call outs by the Essex Fire and Rescue Service during the period 2004 to 2014 has reduced by 50%..

My question is therefore, does The Essex Fire and Rescue Service still wish to locate elsewhere in Harlow? With the merging of Fire and Rescue Services and the Police services at the very top and the need to use diminishing resources carefully, it would seem to make sense to have these services at the same location, sharing both capital and revenue costs.

Final response:

The Service undertook a review of the location of its operational resources ? that is fire stations, fire engines and fire fighters ? culminating a public consultation in 2016. This resulted in the approval of a number of changes which would be implemented between 2016 and 2020. A change to the location of Harlow Fire Station was not included and there are no current plans regarding a change in the location of Harlow Fire Station..
