3) How many days did a) full time fire fighters and b) retained firefighters spend on operational training in the previous ten financial years? (please separate by financial year: 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17)

Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Please find our response to your request below along with the accompaning document attached.

In response to question 3a) and 3b) please find our response below:

Please see attached the gross total spend for Training/Learning and Development for the years 2009 to present. This does not precisely represent what is spent on Operational training as a) the figures include expenditure on non-operational training including leadership and management development and b) it is restricted to the costs of running the training department and does not include costs of Station based training.

On reviewing the training day figures we are unable to report accurately on the number of days of operational training split by Whole Time and On Call. This is because any training report will capture all training undertaken by personnel, including leadership, management and other professional development. Whilst we have provided the budget figures which have similar caveats we have not given any training statistics because the variables would potentially give too mis-leading a picture to be of value.
