Initial request:

Does your force operate a co-responder scheme with any ambulance service? For avoidance of doubt, I am referring to when firefighters are sent to assist medical patients, such as those in cardiac arrest?

Please state what your co-responder scheme is and who it is operated with.

How many times in each of the past five years, or since the scheme was introduced, has a fire engine been sent out as a co-responder.

For each of the past five years, please also state the fire incident response times.

Yes, ECFRS operates a co responding scheme with the Ambulance Service

On Call

Currently one on call station is live as a co responding station Newport

A further on call station (Coggeshall) is awaiting refresher training and will go back on the run in July 2018

Ongar and Frinton withdrew from the activity in 2017 due to the suspension of the National trials

Newport and Coggeshall stations were first responders pre the National pilot that ceased in September 2017. Therefore they have continued the activity agreed with the representative bodies and Service Leadership Team. Responders operate from a car at on call stations, not a fire appliance for Red 1 cardiac arrest patients. A crew of two are mobilised by pager responding to the fire station from home address to pick up the car and respond on blue lights to the incident

Whole time Co responding as part of the National trials took place at Colchester and Basildon. The activity from these two locations ceased as part of the suspension of the National trials at 0900hrs Monday 18th September 2017. The crews at Colchester and Basildon responded in a fire appliance from the fire station with a minimum crew of four.Mobilising 10-mile radius from home station or mobile status with a 15-minute attendance.
