FOI / 3873 / 2018 - Pigeons and Domestic Bird Rescue

Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I can confirm that Essex County Fire & Rescue Service does hold this information.

Initial Request:

I hope you’re well. Last year I sent an FOI about how many pigeons and domestic birds had been rescued by Essex Fire service in the last five years.

I didn’t receive a response, so would like to request this data again please – for the last five years since this email?

Final Response:

Please see below the answer to your request.

How many pigeons and domestic birds had been rescued by Essex Fire service in the last five years.

Animal rescues are classified under one of the three headings:

·         Domestic e.g. Cat, Dog, Rodents, Horse, Bird, etc.

·         Livestock e.g. Horse, Cow, Sheep, Goat, Pig, Poultry, Fish, Exotic (LlamaOstrich), Deer etc.

·         Wild e.g. Horse, Deer, Wildfowl, Game, Aquatic, Exotic, etc.

In the case of domestic birds, they would fall into Domestic and Pigeons would fall into Wild. As a matter of course, crews do not indicate the subtype of animal recused and we didn’t find any reference to domestic birds or pigeons in the data

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to apply for an internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of your original email and should be addressed to: Internal Review, Performance & Data Team, Kelvedon Park, Rivenhall, Witham, Essex CM8 3HB.
