FOI / 3904 / 2018 - Fire alarm calls at NHS hospitals

Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I can confirm that Essex County Fire & Rescue Service does hold this information.

Please see below the answer to your request.

Initial Request:

Since 1.1.16 to the date of this e-mail please state how many times you have attended fire alarm calls at an NHS hospital because of a problem caused by:

1. Toasters

2. Ovens

3. People Smoking, and

4. People Vaping.

How much does a typical call-out cost your fire service? Do you reclaim any costs back from the NHS?

Final Response:

Please find the data attached in the Excel spreadsheet. There have been 172 incidents in the timeframe you requested data for.

We cannot recover costs for response calls except in certain circumstances, for example with another fire service that would be classed as over the border. We do not reclaim any costs back from the NHS.

When we do charge, we do not have a single cost of a call out. We charge according to the cost of mobilising for that incident.

The total cost for these call outs to the incidents provided amounts to £7,688.82 using 2018-19 budgeted pay rates.
