Questions and final response:

Question 1 – How many animals/pets the Essex fire service has rescued in the last five years ?

Please see attached spreadsheet which contains the data requested.

Please note that we are unable to be specific on several of the questions that you ask. See below for explanatory notes :

The number of animals rescued – this is not recorded at incidents, it may be a single animal rescue ie a horse or it could be a group ie a pond containing fish that requires water to reoxygenate the pond.

What the animal was that was rescued – this is not recorded in detail, there are groups of animals that can be selected in the Incident Recording System. See spreadsheet attached which shows the groups alongside the various incidents.

Where the animal was stuck – this is shown as the location ie the address where the animal was, further clues as to where exactly at the location, can be taken from the incident type column.

You can see there are rescues from height, this would indicate an animal trapped on a building, tree or any elevated structure at the location. A rescue from water/mud, this would indicate an area of water at the location , perhaps a field that was waterlogged or a pond/river where the animal had become trapped

How long was it stuck for and how long it took to save the animal - the incident length shows the time from first call through to the ‘stop message’ being sent from the crews at the incident. This ‘stop message’ closes the incident and no further action is taken, other than removing our equipment from the scene.

There is no data available to show how long the animal was actually trapped and/or in need of assistance.
