Questions and final response:
Question 1 – Freedom of information request regarding reported, ignored, faults on fire doors in EEC building, Chelmsford. It should include Fire risk assessments and those past reports back to 1 year from today’s date. A report was made on faulty fire doors for the above building. The officer who spoke with me said she will inspect the allegation and if necessary, make advisories to Mitie and ECC. She also said she knew the building and the evacuation plan will avoid any rick to persons in the building. The facilities manager is Mitie and they have breached their responsibilities under the regulations and law. Please release the requested information.
The Fire Safety Order (FSO) 2005 became law on the 1st October 2006, replacing 118 pieces of legislation, repealing the Fire Precautions Act 1971 and revoking The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations.
This law means it is no longer the fire service's duty to make sure the workplace is safe. That duty lies with the 'responsible person' and they will be held accountable under the new legislation.
Our Fire Protection Officers will audit fire risk assessments and other relevant documentation relating to the business premises.
At the end of the audit, the 'responsible person' will be informed of their compliance level.
If there are matters of concern, the Fire Protection Officers will work with the responsible person to help make necessary improvements.
Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS) attended the building during week ending 28th June 2024.
An inspection was made of the fire doors in question, the fire doors were found to be compliant.
The Fire Risk Assessment that is in place for this building was also reviewed and found to be appropriate.
The Fire Risk Assessment for this building should be requested from the Responsible Person of the premises.
We hope you find this information useful.
