We can confirm that Essex County Fire & Rescue Service does hold the information you have requested.

Questions and final response:

Question 1 – Do you have AEDs (defibrillators) in your service?

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS) have 145 AEDs (defibrillators), these are held on all fire appliances, at our larger fire stations where colleagues are located, at all of our Training establishments and our Fleet Workshops.

Question 2 – If yes, where are your AEDs stored? (e.g. in Fire vehicles, inside the stations or outside of the station in a cabinet) .

The AEDs (defibrillators) are on our fire appliances. The remaining AEDs (defibrillators) are situated within the common areas of the buildings that they are located at, fixed to a wall to allow for easy and quick access.

Question 5 – How old are the AEDs or what year were they purchased?

The defibrillators were purchased in 2014, so are 10 years old in 2024.

Question 6 – When would you look to replace your AEDs?

A full procurement exercise will be undertaken to replace these devices in 2025.

This work will be carried out via a National Framework (if available) or via a fair and transparent procurement process.

Question 7 – Who in your organisation deals with the maintenance of equipment such as AEDs?

The ECFRS’ Technical Services Department are responsible for the maintenance of the defibrillators. 

Question 8 – Who is in charge of purchasing equipment such as AEDs?

The ECFRS’ Technical Services Department are responsible for the procurement of the defibrillators.

Question 9 – Where do you purchase AEDs from?

Our original order of defibrillators in 2014 was with Cardiac Science. Subsequent purchases have been made from Zoll and the De-Fib shop.
