Questions and final response

Question 1 - Water hydrants/ water issue Enquiry details Where I live two BESS are proposed in rural surroundings. A favour please. Can you tell me the following about the recent BESS fire. It was during commission.

Capacity of the water supply. Was this a hydrant? And flow rate?

How many and what type of appliance attended?

Please find attached the incident report for incident number 265149, which includes a list of resources used (resources were deployed over the duration of the incident.)

A tactical controlled burn was employed to manage the Stratera BESS fire at East Tilbury.

The application of water served to protect surrounding risks and prevent further escalation, rather than to directly control the BESS itself.

Efforts were made to recycle water at the earliest opportunity, minimising overall usage and environmental impact.

During the incident, the firefighting tactics employed would have been intermittent (the application of water only being used when required to protect the risk) therefore it would not be possible to provide an exact volume of water used, however, its application was carefully monitored throughout.

We also include two maps showing the location of the nearest fire hydrants maintained by ECFRS.

We do not hold information on the flow rate of these hydrants.

We hope this information is useful to you.
