Questions and final response:

Question 1 - This is a Freedom of Information Request regarding the fire at a warehouse on Progress Road that Essex Fire Service attended on May 27th, 2023. We are environmental consultants who will be assessing the condition of the land to enable redevelopment following the fire. Please can you confirm / provide information on the following: Were firefighting foams used that may have contained PFAS?

We can confirm that our Bulk Foam appliance was not mobilised to this incident.

Question 2 - Were any concerns raised at the time regarding releases of chemicals / fuels / oils from the fire?

Due to the number of vehicles involved in the incident, there was leaking fuels and oils from the many vehicles involved.

Question 3 - Any concerns noted regarding asbestos release?

Due to the age of the building, the presence of asbestos couldn’t be ruled out, however we were not aware of any asbestos at the time.

Question 4 - Any concerns regarding the control of fire water and potential for contamination to have spread across the site?

There were no concerns raised by Operational crews at the time.
