FOI / 4005 / 2019 - ECFRS Pay Scales

Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I can confirm that Essex County Fire & Rescue Service does hold this information.

Please see below the answer to your request.

Initial Request:

I am writing to request your assistance relating to the various pay scales within the fire and rescue service for a research project - “Developing Subnational Purchasing Power Parities for the United Kingdom” – undertaken at Birmingham City University (and part funded with a grant from the ONS).

Specifically, I would like to find out the number of staff in each employment band and the average salary paid in each band. Also, if you could include both the figures with and without national insurance and any regional allowances you use that would be most helpful.

Final Response:

Please see our response on the attached Excel spreadsheet.

Our pay bands are aligned to nationally agreed rates. Please find attached a summary of the numbers in each grade as at 31 July 2019.

Note that the Annual Salary figures are full time equivalents and would therefore be pro-rated for individual colleagues working on a part time basis.

In addition, please note that the Whole Rate Retainer is pro-rated for On-Call colleagues that provide reduced availability.

As well as colleagues within our the standard pay grades, we have a small number of people paid spot salaries or are in a pay protection situation and hence are not paid according to our current pay scale.
