Question 1 – The number of fires in the construction industry (buildings under construction) in 2022/23?

For the year 2022/2023 the number of incidents was 1,185.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service do not record specifically incidents attended at construction sites.

There is a field in the data capture form ‘Fire Special Construction’

We have taken the incidents that have an entry in this field to identify the information requested. We assume that this field identifies incidents at premises where construction was being carried out, therefore as being buildings under construction, this may or may not be accurate.

As the data capture is limited, we have supplied the number of incidents where this field has data entered.

Question 2 - The number of fires caused by hot works in the construction industry in 2022/23?

One incident was stated to be ‘Hot Works’ for year 2022/2023.

Question 3 - The main causes of hot works incidents in the construction industry?

The cause stated for this incident was ‘Hot works carried out on roof during day’.

Question 4 - The number of injuries and fatalities caused by hot work incidents in the construction industry?

No injuries or fatalities were noted in this incident by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
