Questions and final response:

Question 1 – I'm looking into different emergency service crewing policies and am wondering if you have any Wholetime Day Crewed Fire Stations within the County? And if so.Do wholetime day crewed firefighters receive free accommodation within the turnout area of the fire station or a rent allowance towards accommodation in the area. If a rent allowance is paid, how is this calculated and how much is the allowance? Do wholetime day crewed firefighters receive a night time allowance for responding from home to fire calls?

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service Day Crewed Stations have now converted to become On-Call fire stations.

Our Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team are employed on similar terms as Day Crewed.

When carrying out standby duties, it is a condition of their employment to reside no more than 35 minutes (under normal road conditions) to the USAR unit to ensure that they meet the required emergency response times.

Their shift systems are based on 42 hours per week inclusive of meal breaks averaged over an eight-week cycle.

Their normal duty will be performed on a rota basis and will be based on the day crewed systems of working 4 duty days followed by 4 rest days.

They are entitled to the following allowances: Retaining fee: As per day crewing duty system (5% of the full-time basic annual salary, as set out in Circular NJC/3/23):

FF Day Crewed Retainer Fee = £1811 annually

CM Day Crewed Retainer Fee = £2008 annually

WM Day Crewed Retainer Fee = £2246 annually

Fuel and light allowance: £520.52 annually.

Rent allowance: £5,300.75 annually.

We hope you find this information useful.
