Questions and final response

Question 1- Your fire service attended a fire at a battery storage facility under incident reference 265149.In the report on your website, your Area Manager references the site safety features, a nearby water source, and appropriate spacing between units as being important to the safe conclusion of the event.

Would you please provide the following information: - details of the relevant site safety measures

No information held.

Question 2 - the estimated amount of water needed during the event

We attach the incident report for incident 265149.

A tactical controlled burn was employed to manage the Stratera BESS fire at East Tilbury.

The application of water served to protect surrounding risks and prevent further escalation, rather than to directly control the BESS itself.

Efforts were made to recycle water at the earliest opportunity, minimising overall usage and environmental impact.

During the incident, the firefighting tactics employed would have been intermittent (the application of water only being used when required to protect the risk) therefore it would not be possible to provide an exact volume of water used, however, its application was carefully monitored throughout.

Question 3 - how the used firewater was contained and disposed of

See response to Question 2.

Question 4 – the spacing between the battery units

No information held.

Question 5 - the make and model of battery storage unit used (e.g. CATK, Tesla, etc).

No information held.

We hope this information is useful to you.
